My oil painting of the soft first light in
Bannau Brycheiniog / the Brecon Beacons National Park. The peaks of Pen Y Fan, Cribyn, and Fan Y Big are silhouetted against the glowing sky. The sun is only just starting to delicately illuminate the rolling hills, and if you look closely some tiny sheep are grazing on the slopes.
I visited in September last year and (thanks to my friends' enthusiasm) embarked on the Horseshoe hike to climb Pen Y Fan before sunrise.
This scene is painted from a photo I took looking up the Neuadd Valley, part way up the steep climb up to the Graig Fan Ddu ridge. The soft barely-there light on the hills contrasting with the quickly brightening sky was so subtly beautiful.
