My oil painting is of the beautiful golden landscape and olive groves on the island of Sifnos, a scene I encountered on a walk to my favourite taverna one evening. You can see the serene town of Apollonia clustered on the hillside, in its classic Cyclades white and blues. In the distance, the sliver of ocean adds to the sense of peace. Clouds gather above, breaking up the day.
I visited Sifnos in 2021, between London lockdowns. I stayed in Apollonia, the inland capital of the island. The stunning contrast of the golden sunburned hills, the soft greens of the olive trees, and the stark blue sky has stuck in my mind ever since. I'm so happy to have finally captured that wonderful colour in paint.
